It is a 3 position lever for the counter weight in the machine. One of my machines still has the tag for the positions. Pull out for L-R Climb Cutting, Center for Neutral and Push in for R-L Conventional. I have 1 machine where it is pulled out and 3 that have it pushed in, and we don't change the positions.
