You're right, of course. Thanks for pointing out that all gearing is subject to sliding velocity. Non intersecting axis gearing (hypoid and worm gearing, for example) have a higher degree of sliding velocity than members on parallel or intersecting axes.
I'm still looking for formulas that calculate sliding velocity in spiral gearing.
