Bill, If the profiles of both gears are shifted + the pitch circles won't run together. I assume the
HAs are at the PD. Also one gear is shaped and the
other one is hobbed (?). Yes, the PD increases with
an increase in HA. Don't know a thing about nonrack
form of shaped gears but hobbed is based on rack.
So, my home grown rack system with the hobbed gear
might be the ticket (probably not too accurate).
The rack would be like checking HA by meshing 2
gears together and checking their side flatness
like you mentioned. Figuring the Ha from the givens is not possible, IMHO.
