I am not an engineer. I have taken the engineering courses at gleason for the engineering and design of bevel gears, and have cut bevel gears for 15 years, but not in the last 10. I cannot answer your question on the apex to crossing, I have never encountered it. The MCTB does indeed get smaller as you approach the center. I might not be understanding the question.
