From time to time I repair string bass tuners. Some
are very old. A majority of them use an Hour glass
worm. I use a HS fly cutter itself tilted to the
HA of the worm. The table is set at 0. I grind the form straight sided. The teeth on the worm gear are
straight sided also. They run well together.
The original tuners sometimes hundreds of years old
look to have straight sided teeth.
