This is how gear shops do it. You never disengage the feed. Stop at the end of the first cut without disengaging anything, move the hob out, put everything in reverse and back out.
On big teeth you can realign but anything small is a crapshoot. Normally one tries to *not* two-cut a non-differential helical job.
