I've run into a situation where calculted OD of Hypoid pinion is larger than calc OD of Gear. Now I know that a hypoid set is not a spiral set, but it doesn't seem right that pinion should be larger than gear.

The hypoid set is 21T x 36T . Does it make sense that 21T OD is 6.3 inch and 36T is 5.9 inch??? FW could be 1 to 1.125 inch and pinion is still larger than gear. What am I missing?
