Thanks for the Reply, Frank!

- Craters are in tooth surface of cut part.
- Whole Depth apprx. 8mm, but craters can be seen in depth range 5-8mm. Gear tooth tip diameter vary between 50-100mm
- I'm cutting steel, sort of easy to machine heat treatment steel (20NiCrMo2-2). I've tried different hob speeds and feeds. Perhaps smaller hob speed has been better, but yet, there's quite much of craters.
- Cutter is HSS with coating, otherwise I can't tell, how to evaluate the cutter quality. But this definitely might have something to do with the cutting quality. Can you tell me more precisely, how cutter quality can affect on this, what's the reason why some cutter is better than other?
- Hardness is not high, it's easy to machine ~200HB
- Yes, piece is properly supported and this issue hasn't been before, when cutter has been dull.
- Coolant is through oil.

Thanks again for reply. Let's try to find some reasonable answer for this :)

And btw. in general, is it possible to change hob during gear hobbing with manual hobber? How to align hob for the machining piece?

Thanks,
Reiska
