We understand that the helix angle is determined by the pitch diameter the tool swings and the index ratio. The tangential feed influences the shape of the tooth, but not the helix angle generated in the worm gear. We use a Pfauter 400.
We are cutting a 29 tooth worm gear that meshes with an 8 start worm as I type this. The index is geared for 3.625 teeth and in this case, the tangential lead is up around 5.8 inches.
We cut several aluminum sample/setup blanks 1st!!
