powdered metal right angle spiral bevel gears???

Do they exist? I am working on a school project and
we would like to change the right angle gear in a
drill from cut steel to powder metal to save money.

Has this ever been done before?

We are concerned with the strength and the sound level.

Any comments/helpful hints/leads???
