Hi Tim,

Sounds like you've created a "dumbbell" affect which only changes the frequency of vibration, but doesn't dampen the vibrations.

Is the machine a verticle hobber (with table) or horizontal (with horizontal arbor).

If vertical, suggest you get a piece of pipe with OD slightly smaller than work root diameter, or at least in contact with face of gear.

If horizontal, you might mount a bumper against the face below root diameter, and placed somewhere near the cutter. This bumper should be adjustable to just barely contact the gear face.

Hopefully someone with ideas will post here and keep the conversation going.
