my question is this: how do I find the exact helix? I mount a dial indicator or what?

My grinding machines(kapp as203), does not use quadruplet for wheel helix,
but as you see in the picture "plate" using a "guide plate"
it increases or decreases helix, moving off-axis (see yellow lines)
my question is this: how do I find the exact helix? I mount a dial indicator or what?
