Hi. First things first. A spur gear has straight cut teeth, i.e it is not a helical gear. Second thing is that by introducing an idler gear you are reversing the direction of the output shaft.
Increasing the centre distance can be achieved using a different pitch, ratio or helix angle. Or a combination of these.
