How do I cut helical gears on a Newark 3 hobbing machine? How do I control the feed?
I am use to using Barber Colman machines that have a set of 4 index gears and a set of 4 feed gears.
I have just acquired a Newark 3, 12/N, without a manual. There is no place for a set of 4 feed gears as with the Barber Colman. The feed gears, (2), are on a fix axis shaft and teeth must be a total sum of 120. There is a differential on the back.
Using the Barber Colman information-- When I touch a test piece to the hob it shows that I am cutting the correct number of teeth and the angle is correct, but when I drop down and feed in - the teeth, well there’s no teeth.
How do I control the feed rate to produce a helical gear? If you haven’t guessed I’m new to gear cutting.
Thanks.
