I will use all the existing change gears to drive the workpiece table and hob arbor. Then have an encoder fitted to the table to give the shifting motor a reference. Now if the workpiece table needs to advance very slightly, could I not use the differential for helical gears to give me the advance I want? I would then use a PLC to drive the Servo with the input from the table and other variables as required for the specific gear being cut written into the PLC program.
