But nothing's impossible - you can easily stop the index by disengaging index gears, then I suppose you could setup the index change gear ratio to allow you to rotate a disengaged driver manually a certain number of times to advance one tooth - Turn the index into an index head of sorts.
You would have to use a single bit fly cutter. Also, will the hobber would give you feed and cutter rotation without the work table rotating? The common hobber that is geared throughout will (I believe), but there are variations in machine design that might not work that way...
Andy, could you be trying to "take a hobber where no hobber has gone before"? :^)
