I thought about this for a while, but without seeing your formulas for comparison, I didn't want to make unwarranted guesses.
But then, it dawned on me just now that the difference is probably between pins over involute teeth (gear) and pins over a rack profile worm. (Well, the worm is a close approx. to a rack in profile). Anyway, the formulas I use for MOW of a worm are based on assuming a rack form (straight-sided "teeth").
