The company that does our gears sent me a hob that has to be replaced because the teeth are getting too thin. I was curious how the hobs are held in the hobber. This hob has 5/8" shanks on both ends. One shank has an external keyway and an internal thread in the end. The other shank has a turning center in the end. Do hobbers have changable collets on one end for one shank and the other shank is supported with a live center? One end must be on a slide to be able to move back and forth?
