A gear cutter have been producing spline shafts and female spline for us. We have now changed suppliers and found that the original supplier have not adhered to a standard. We have only specified a metric module spline (28x1.75x30x16 and 40.5x2.25x30x18). The original supplier has made some adjustments to the tolerances to acchieve a sliding fit. He has given us the input and output parameters from the gear program he uses, but says that he can't tell us if there were any further modifications done. From the data he has given us, it is clear that he made an "addendum modification coeff." of 0.05 on the pinion and -0.05 on the gear. How do I go about to establish what tolerances I should specify for future spline orders made to other suppliers. Also, it seems like DIN 5482 has been discontinued, while 5480 has becom the norm??? Our supplier says he has been making them to DIN 5482, but he is not quite sure what the difference is. Can somebody please help me?
