The root of a gear when hobbed or shaped is not a radius it is a curve. I have tried to interest the gear industry in the UK and latterly with a US company - in software to explore this and many other gear features involved in correction centre modification, interference etc etc.My software accurately draws in AutoCad the root form as influenced by hob tip radius or the shaping cutter. Nobody is interested!
