GearTrax from Camnetics is a program that you can get for Solidowrks. You enter the data and it generates the gear(s) for you. It is not free and I saw it used as a demo version. I think there is a trial version. http://www.camnetics.com/GearTrax.htm
I am not aware of any other freeware for gears but please post any info you find.
Kissoft also makes programs but they are expensive.
