You have to have an amount of modification you are shooting
for. Say you want to reduce a gear o.d. by .250"
and need to figure pinion o.d. take .250 divided by 2 multiplied by the NDP
this is the amount of hob shift that needs to be
added to your pinion to run with the reduced gear.
Be careful of increasing the pinion o.d. to much or this will resultin an
pointed tooth which is undesirable in gear design.
