Good advise given. Five thou is a big jump. Put an indicator on the saddle so you can tell if it's repeating.
Check both dim between pins and root dia. If root dia remains consistent, part or cutter is slipping. May even be inner guide slipping on spindle.
If results follow each other, examine the depth cam and rack behind the saddle. Insure there is no foreign matl on the cam surface, roller follower, rack teeth or pinion. These components are often showered with chips from some idiot using an air hose.
Confirm both the ball bearing behind the depth feed cam and roller follower aren't fouled with chips and skidding on a flat spot. These machines are 50 years old. Don't assume anything is correct.
