Hi Bill, yes we do lock out the differential. We have one machine (Wolf hobber) that does not have a good enough selection of index gears. We were trying to cut 173 teeth so I just adopted the 6 gear train index to complete the lack of available gears. Our customer is a leading surgical supplier and demands closer accuracy even though they don't really need it IMO. The 12/N and 24/N BC machines are okay with 4 gears but I couldn't get 24/173 on a 24 pitch gear. feel free to contact me at my email.
Regards, Tom
