I have two copies of this book, the 17th edition and the 24th edition. I wanted to confirm my numbers. I came up with .5885/.5900 as a caliper dia for 9 tooth .250 pitch with P.D. of .731"
According to the formula you get .0015 minus tolerance. With the charts, you get .004 minus tolerance. Being that a caliper is not real accurate, I would prefer the .004 tolerance.
Also, in the Martin Gear and Sprocket book, the technical section said that with odd number of teeth, the bottom diameter is the P.D. - .130 which is the roller diameter for .250 pitch sprocket. This would give a caliper dia of .601"

Thank you for your response. I am going with the .5885/.5900 as the caliper dia.
