The term diametral pitch is the ratio of the number of teeth to the number of inches in the pitch diameter.
The circumference of a circle is pi * diameter.
Therefore your linear travel will be pi.
For this very reason, applications which require precise movement will typically make use of circular pitch gearing as opposed to diametral pitch gearing to allow for nominal values of linear travel.
