for hobbing time the general rule of thumb is as follows: (overall length of part being cut plus approach of the cutter multiplied by the number of teeth) devided by (1 x rpm of cutter x desired feed). this will give you the cutting time in minutes. you will have to add to this the change over time to take for example one piece out and put a new piece in. I believe the 1 represents the number of starts in the hob.
