I agree with mr. Ignat, the choose must be made with some computation tool tha allows you to compare different solution. Now many people thinks that gears must have big transverse overlap, so you often find the opposit of your answer: long-addendum gears with transvers overlap > 2. Pheraphs in some application you can get overlap from helical overlap and get advantage from higher teeth overload capacity with stub dimensions. Anyway I think that you should compare different solution with a software that allows you fast comparing from different points of view and different standards.
If you are interested STEM produces software like this, (pheraphs also a company wich software name is CPC but I do not know this one).
