1 is to use when u are using a single tip on the arbor to cut a single tooth at a time. By engaging this lever the feed gears will rotate in opposite direction and 84 rotations.
2 is to use when u are using a hob cutter to cut a gear. M using this orientation all the time to cut the gears either its spur or helical.
