would i be correct to assume that if a hypoid gear such as a ring and pinion in a differential is out of adjustment that the contact pattern works opposite in regard to drive and coast in relationship to the heel and toe area. for example( if the depth pattern is in the middle of the tooth but the drive side has a toe contact, then the coast side will have a heel contact. ideally you would want a center contact both depth and in the middle between the heel and toe. I would like to know of a great gear design or manufacturing book which explans this type of gear in depth. repair manuals do a far job but does not convey what i what to know about missalignment problems.
