Gear noise problem

Dear Sir:

We are in development of planetary gearing that runs at high speed (input
34K rpm) and have encountered a problem. The pitch is 32 and we are using
2 stage reduction with ratios between 4/1 and 8/1. The ring gear dia is
approximately 1.5".

The noise is proportional to speed and appears to be a clacking/castanets
type of noise that is unacceptably loud under no load. The application is
a portable power tool that is driven by a d/c brushless motor to run down
and tighten threaded fasteners.

If you can give us any advice or areas to look at/modify, or if you are
available to consult, etc, please reply.

Thanks in advance.
