CPC Software Updates and Revision History

Demo Download | Software Activation Instructions | Home

We try to keep it simple and painless.
The process of updating CPC software has been greatly simplified.

Start by clicking on your software product's revision history in the list below. There you will find a Download the Update for... link to get the latest update installation. Don't click the download link for a different software package - each download is different and is specific to one software package.

If your activation key is lost, please your company name, phone number of someone we may contact, and the computer ID displayed by the software when you try to activate it. Be sure your Email address is included.

Normally your activation key will continue to work following an update to the same program on the same computer. This way you always have immediate access to the latest software updates.

Now here's the fine print.
A major product release (e.g., a Windows 64 version) will always require a new activation key, and will be priced according to whether you are upgrading or purchasing for the first time. Any major upgrade to a module can, at the discretion of Community PC, be deemed a new release and priced accordingly. Only simple revisions and corrections to existing products are provided free of charge. Also, charges may apply if software obtained through means other than download from this website. Licensed User experienced
flood that ruined his PC.
He installed on a new
PC with 64-bit Win7 OS.

User discovered when
he started in Demo Mode,
clicked "Read and Activate"
and "I Agree" to license,
the ID for his new system
was too long by 3 digits.
This bug prevented a
proper ID and thus
could not be activated.

Sent user special diagnostic
version and was able to find
and fix the problem.

So far, this has only been
a problem with 64-bit OS.

If you are installing on
Win7 or later (64-bit OS)
and cannot create a
proper ID:

CPX plus 6 groups of 4 digits

then download this version
and install it over
your current version.
When you "Read and Activate"
You should get a proper
ID number.

Please report if your
ID is not as described.

If your demo version (running
on Win7 or other 64-bit OS)
creates a malformed
ID number (proper ID MUST BE
CPX plus 6 groups of 4 digits each)
then you need to download and
install this version or later.

CPC24 user is trying

No. 14 Gleason Generator.
Cradle Angle / Cradle
ratio gear chart doesn't
Match his.

Gear specs are correct
but cradle angle and gear
selection (chart) is not
clearly understood.

No.14 method for cradle angle
is different from No. 24.
It is concluded that
largest value in table
is meant to be the limit
(52.8 deg for No. 14
and 62.4 deg for No. 24).
Added tables in F1 help
screens when excess cradle
angle is warned.

Added user note input in
Main Menu at Help option.
Preserved PA input when
returning to earlier inputs.

Update should be made to
prevent excessive cradle
roll for either
generator.

CPC24 user reported
that the chordal
thickness for toe
end was too small.

While investigating
the Toe problem, it
was discovered that
Backlash recommendations
were out of date.

Heel chordal thickness
is correct, but toe
chordal thickness is not.

Also, in a 1972 Gleason
revision, backlash for
straight bevel gears is
adopted from spiral gears;
i.e. backlash differs
over two ranges of
AGMA Quality Numbers.

Update should be made to
prevent possible confusion
between toe and heel
measurements.

Backlash recommendations

Printer problem was reported
by user who installed on a Win7
platform. User reported an error
screen "Error 15...Line 0 Spu24"

Could not repeat the Error 15
as reported, but made a number of
"cleanup" changes and tested.

Testing reveals finding ratio of roll
gearset takes a looong time, so the
same User Preference used in CPC-HYP
was added to allow user to skip
ratio of roll. This speeds up "trial
and error" testing. This is only
helpful when installed on 64-bit
Windows which uses DosBox emulator.

Update is not required unless
skipping Ratio of Roll gearset
is desired and CPC-24 is installed

Name of text file would disappear when print was entered.
Files should be saved to "summary" folder.

Demo is limited to 50 and 40T, which is too restrictive for a meaningful assessment.

Versions of CPC-24 prior to 11/25/09 should be considered for this update. Print file names are formatted SPUnnnnn.TXT where "nnnnn" is a unique number.
SPU filename appears on last screen line to remind user. Setup files are all saved to "summary" folder.

2/09/09 Not all ratio gearsets would physically mount on machine. Decimal ratios were correctly matched by gear sets but gear sets that could not be mounted were useless.
This would require users to sometimes use other means (e.g. Gleason's table of change gears) to find suitable ratio gear sets.
Versions of CPC-24 prior to 02/09/09 should be seriously considered for this update. Program changes now assure that ratio gear sets will properly mount on the machine.
Also, the table of missing change gear sizes is re-activated to define gear sizes not included in a standard Gleason change gear inventory.
The user may wish to add new gear sizes to the inventory and edit the gear table to permit those sizes. Missing sizes are listed here (and in F1 help screens) for convenience:
85,87,88,92,93,94,95,and 96.
If anyone has any problem mounting a ratio gearset, please . Please include the ratio gear decimal ratio and the problem gear set.

8/19/06 Some Index gearsets were not reliably mounting at the machine. All Versions of CPC-24 should be updated with this fix. Index Calculations have been dropped in favor of an internal table. The new table mimics the standard 30/N table to assure workability at machine.
User input Index gear tables for last shaft and missing gear sizes are ignored and thus no longer necessary.
Additions made to F1 Help screens explain the changes and how to interpret the displayed change gears.

06/05/08 Functionality to create summaries for Clutches (Face Gears) is missing.

30 Deg cutter pressure angle is unavailable.

Accidently clicking into the window would [Esc] back to an earlier screen.

Certain calculations involve ArcSine(x) and ArcCosine(x) functions. Mathematically,
values of "x" cannot exceed 1.0. Any calculation of "x" that leads to a value
larger than 1.0 ordinarily stops the process and quits the program. Some user
input combinations, while appearing harmless, can produce "x" values larger than 1.0.

Versions of CPC-2A/102 prior to 07/16/08 should be updated. Added "CLUTCH (FACE GEAR)" option to FORMATE method. See new System Menu option (in FORMATE method only!) to create Clutch gear summaries.
Reference to pinion has been removed from all screens and prints when "CLUTCH (FACE GEAR)" option is selected.
Added comments to Help topics concerning Clutch gears.

Improved screen navigation. Menu item must be selected to navigate forward/backward.

Calculation of values out of range for ASIN or ACOS are preemptively trapped to gracefully stop the processing and loop back to prior inputs safely.
These errors now return an E0n: number along with a message that can be reported to tech support.

30 Deg PA was added to cutter list (Formate only).

Posted Version 1.1003 to website 07/16/08
07/10/07 (1) Pitch angle was not recalculated when addendum changed.
(2) Finding Profile Factor (Kp) from Swing Angle was hit or miss when matching to an existing summary. Kp should be added to output print and preview.
(3) Added Revised Method to Standard and Formate methods. This is expected to make matching an existing summary easier.
(4) Linkage Setting added to Generating Cam selection screen would make staying under 1.400 easier.
(5) Some settings between members were different in the case of miter sets.
Versions of CPC-2A/102 prior to 07/30/07 should be updated. A lot of what was changed here has to do with making matches to existing summaries. Since there are many choices to be made while creating a summary, matching existing summaries is not so simple. Since matching has been expressed often in user comments, it seems a good idea to make matching an easier effort. Just remember that recreating a particular summary is NOT necessary to a successful summary. However matching builds confidence in the software and is a valuable way to learn the software. I regret to say that, until now, matching summaries was considered relatively unimportant.

Besides, while making changes for the purpose of matching, a number of real issues were uncovered.

(1) Pitch angle is recalculated for user changes in addendum or Whole Depth.
Also, maximum dedendum angle before undercut is now displayed.
(2) Standard Method only: Kp is recalculated when Swing Angle(s) are changed. Kp is also printed on the summary.
(3) Rather than incorporating all revisions into the one Standard method presented, changes not appearing in the original Standard (Book) Method have been extracted to the new Revised Method.
Standard Method now strictly follows the original documentation, while the Revised Method incorporates changes made by the OEM to the original method. To my knowledge, the documentation was never updated and distributed for these changes. It's not certain whether the Revised method is superior to the Standard, but it makes hand calculation easier. While not proven, there could be other justification in using the Revised method - but for now let's say it's just different. I would appreciate anyone's comments or experience in this area.
(4) Linkage setting was one of the last calculations made, but directly influences the choice of a generating cam. So linkage has been added to the Generating Cam selection screen.
(5) There's no reason for values and settings to vary between two miter members. It's possible for comparison's sake to force differences, but differences don't occur by default now. This issue has been corrected. Additional comments and hints are added to the Help facility.
Cutter Selections in the Formate Method are now in a separate window.

So far, this has only been
a problem with 64-bit OS.

If you are installing on
Win7 or later (64-bit OS)
and cannot create a
proper ID:

CPX plus 6 groups of 4 digits

then download this version
and install it over

User reported an estimated DP
that resulted in an undersized
OD and an offset that wasn't
achievable. Found that problem
originated from bad estimate
of OD and DP derived by user
based on sample measurements.

Gear specs can be sensitive to
user's selection of DP. This is
especially true of Hypoid sets
since the offset pinion location
is often close to gear OD.

Symptoms may appear as
impossible cutter choices or
spiral angles. Net effect is
a summary process that reports
warnings and errors.

This can often happen when user
is working from samples and is
approximating a DP from gear's
Outside Diameter.

A bug (not related to OD/DP issue)
was found with no. 16 summary.
It shows up as a negative Radial.

It was decided that the best course
of action was to add a feature
that prompts user for the OD
(Outside Diameter) measurement.
Thus, if user originally had to
approximate DP (Diametral Pitch),
then the user can enter and change
the OD value and let CPC-UNI
recalculate DP.

When user is satisfied with DP
and OD values, user will simply
[Enter] at the OD input to continue
the summary process.

Unless DP is entered from a print
the value of DP can be questionable.

It is recommended that
user should download
and install this update !

The OD Input feature
is worth an update.

Besides, if you create
summaries for no. 16
you could experience the
negative radial!

Added new feature that
allows user to optionally
enter Outside Diameter.
This gives user an
accurate way to determine
Diametral Pitch (DP), since
program will calculate DP
based on OD.

also added help screens
to explain the problem
and the feature.

OD Input has been added
for all machine setups
that can be made
in CPC-UNI.

Since OD recognizes a
change in value, CPC-UNI
automatically redirects
user to the new value of DP.
Thus user is able to
either accept calculated
DP or not.

11/30/09 User reminded me that Index Gear Sets are not shown!

Print fails to show Vertical Offset for Pinion.

"Print to File" option too clumsy.

This omission forces users to refer to Table of 30-N change gears.

It is suggested that user install this update.

Fixed 30-N index change gear problem. Had to add a page to summary print.

Added Summary folder to collect file copies. Unique filenames are automated.

Fixed Vertical Offset print problem.

Help screens are updated.

Version 1.05 11/30/09
07/10/08 For some print actions, a fatal error was generated. Error can be reproduced by first saving to file and then sending summary to printer. The system error was due to a call to an obsolete version of error handler.

Software should be updated when possible to prevent this fatal error.

Fixed problem. Changes made to CPC-26.EXE module and posted to website
Version 1.04 07/10/08
04/28/05 Automatic addendum calculation for Gleason standard systems was not working. This was broken at the last enhancement. Corrected a bug that threw "Error code 12 RA variable not found." Error is not associated to "0" pinion addendum issue. Addendum was "0" for pinion when selecting standard systems. Required using "Spec Tth Proportions" System to enter Pinion addendum. Fixed pinion addendum bug for Gleason standard systems. Changes made to CPC-26.EXE module and posted to website
Version 1.03 04/28/05
03/15/05 Non-standard tooth proportions were not handled. There was a request to enter proportions for a stub tooth design variation. No error produced, but user limited in cases where addendum is not standard. A new option is added to the Systems Menu called "Spec Tth Proportions". Selecting this option enables input for gear and pinion addendums. Changes made to CPC-26 module and Help26 files and posted to website
Version 1.02 03/16/05
01/27/04 Printing hangs on Windows XP for some printer configurations, esp. network printing. When printing in Windows XP, CPC-26 can freeze in its window. Not usually a problem for Windows NT 4.0 and earlier versions. If Windows XP is installed or printer is failing then this upgrade is recommended. Windows print module added and CPC-26 module posted to website
Version 1.02 01/27/04
12/06/02 Spiral Angle input could not accept decimal degrees. No error produced, but user limited in cases where special Spiral Angle is used. Added 5 decimal places to Spiral Angle input. Corrected CPC-26 module and posted to website
Version 1.02 12/06/02
08/03/02 Small (3" or less) diameter cutters were ignored, producing an error when trying to Continue the setup process. Program generates message to say that a cutter can not be found, and restarts setup process. Corrected internal cutter selection process. Corrected CPC-26 module and posted to website
Version 1.02 08/03/02
02/14/00 6T/40T and 7T/50T combinations were "Unresolved for tooth thickness", which prevented completing summaries for teeth greater than 40T and 50T, resp. No error produced, but summary cannot proceed when gear is 40T (or 50T) and pinion is 6T (or 7T). extended cir. tooth thickness values for all gear sizes outside normal table values. Corrected CPC-26 module and posted to website
Version 1.02 02/14/00
07/17/99 When returning to main menu after entering or selecting a cutter in summary, tooling caused "file in use" Red screen error. Menu option tooling would try to open a file already in use. When error occurs, software is shutdown. No error is produced in summary. added code to tooling module to always close file if open, then open it normally. Corrected CPC-26 module and posted to website
07/19/99
06/22/99 A - Listing of cutter diameters limited to 2xCone Distance which is too confining. Opened list to display all diameters.
B - Omega=2xrollgear ratio was incorrect. Omega/2 was approx equal to rollgear ratio.
C - Occasional 80T found for last roll gear driven. Notified by user that 90T is fixed in last driven position.
A - Summary required cutter diameters that may not be available to shop.
B - Summary error due to roll gear ratio # omega/1.92 is insignificant.
C -Program occasionally specifies 80T. Summary Instruction table allows 80T in last driven; must be a mistake.
A - Full list of cutter diameters presented to user, with recommended sizes indicated in table. Help file updated.
B - Omega calculated from actual rollgear ratio as 1.92 x R/G ratio.
C - Although 80T is in instruction table, program now forces 90T as last driven rollgear.
Corrected CPC-26 Module and posted to website
06/22/99
12/12/98 "No cutter qualifies" for specific tooth combinations. THK table had missing data point and program could not find thickness solution. Affects summary for certain tooth combinations; otherwise works correctly. Added data points to THK table & verified continuity of table's data points. Corrected CPC-26 Module and posted to website

09/18/2017 Sent Updated version.

Licensed User experienced
flood that ruined his PC.
He installed on a new
PC with 64-bit Win7 OS.

User discovered when
he started in Demo Mode,
clicked "Read and Activate"
and "I Agree" to license,
the ID for his new system
was too long by 3 digits.
This bug prevented a
proper ID and thus
could not be activated.

Sent user special diagnostic
version and was able to find
and fix the problem.

So far, this has only been
a problem with 64-bit OS.

If you are installing on
Win7 or later (64-bit OS)
and cannot create a
proper ID:

CPX plus 6 groups of 4 digits

then download this version
and install it over
your current version.
When you "Read and Activate"
You should get a proper

Please report if your
ID is not as described.

If your demo version (running
on Win7 or other 64-bit OS)
creates a malformed

The following bug was
discovered by user
Paramjit and reported
on the discussion forum.

Ratio of roll does not
change when shaft angle
is changed.

Thanks, Paramjit!

Equivalent Pinion must be
used when shaft angle changes.

Spread Blade Method
does not address Ratio
of roll as a separate
calculation for No. 7
machine.

Ratio of Roll
corrected

Existing security uses
a PC ID and a correxponding
Activation Key. These now
use alpha/numeric characters
which can be confusing
and thus prone to error.

It would be an improvement
to use all numbers in new
PC ID's and ActivationKeys.
This should avoid future
confusion between numbers
and letters such as:
O and 0, I and 1,
and V and U
for examples.

It is important to preserve
current behavior so that
users who update their
earlier versions will not
need a new activation key.

Some users reported
problems with printing.
In working with users
that reported problems,
no one reported an error
message. Problems seemed
to be resolved with a
reinstallation.

Finally, on 5/09/14
user reported "Spooler
not enabled" error
window that stopped
the print utility from
loading. This was the
necessary "smoking
gun".

Printing from
windows print
manager doesn't
work in Win7
installation.

found that prfile.ini
wasn't found by PrFile
utility when placed into
c:\windows folder.
Reason:
"Start..." was pointing
to c:\windows\Prfile.ini
but should point to
home folder (%CD%).

Default version of Prfile.ini
should be installed along
with all other files.

This error surely forces
user to print using
the following work-around.

Printing workaround
requires the target
.txt file to be found
in CPCHOB\SUMMARY
folder and opened in
an editor (like notepad).
Editor would be
used to print.

so Version Number

04/18/05 (1) A user suggested that CPC-HOB should have a list of excluded Index Change Gears for each hobbing machine.

(2) Discovered a problem when user modifies a lead change gear set. Upon modifying and exiting the Lead change window, the original unmodified set was displayed. Entering and exiting again would display the correct set as modified, but this was not acceptable.

All Versions
of CPC-HOB
prior to 2.415

Also automated feed gear creation to create 4 gear set when table feed requires it.
Versions of CPC-HOB prior to 09/13/04 should be considered for this update. New option added to CPC-HOB to to set preference to 4-gear Feed Gear Sets on differential machines. Modified CPC-HOB module and posted to website

04/17/04 Change gear pitch looses its decimal portion during setup.
The hob machine list table permits change gear pitch to be expressed with a decimal place (ex. 8.5) but the "Verify Hobbing Machine Data" screen (2nd screen in setup process) drops the decimal place prior to creating a setup.
Versions of CPC-HOB prior to 04/17/04 should be considered for this update to improve the fit of change gears at the machine. Corrected CPC-HOB to use decimal portion of change gear pitch. Modified CPC-HOB module and posted to website
Version 2.412

11/08/03 Variation of hobber design discovered.
There are hobbers that use decimal index constants (such as 0.075) in the denominator of the traditional index over teeth (index/teeth) expression for index change gears. Attempting to use the reciprocal (13.333...) as the numerator index value doesn't work since the reciprocal is a repeating decimal which cannot be entered as an exact value.
Versions of CPC-HOB prior to 11/08/03 should be considered for this update, esp. if using a hobber as described. Changed CPC-HOB to interpret a machine index value smaller than 1.0 as belonging in the denominator
of the index/teeth expression.

05/01/01 Problem of rounding a decimal index constant occurred in "C" type machine for helical gear under some circumstances. The following example reproduces the error for a non-differential machine with index constant = 7.5 and feed constant = 0.01875, IdxCC=8, IdxP=12 MinFD=30:
For a12NDP 44T 27 Deg 15 min LH gear and table feed = .036 CPC-HOB produced an incorrect index set of 23 x 32 / 45 x 94. The index gear set should be 32 x 42 / 84 x 94.
Versions of CPC-HOB prior to 05/01/01 have this bug and should be immediately replaced with this update. Corrected error in code Modified CPC-HOB module and posted to website

03/02/01 Index ratio and index gear set for some setups was using the rounded value of machine index constant. No error occured for integer value of index constant, but occured for some (but not all) setups on machines with decimal values of index constant. The following example reproduces the error for a non-differential machine with index constant = 7.5 and feed constant = 0.01875:
For a 2 Module 76T 9 Deg LH gear and table feed = .028 CPC-HOB produced an incorrect index set of 28 x 32 / 86 x 99. The index gear set should be 28 x 30 / 86 x 99.
Versions of CPC-HOB prior to 03/02/01have this bug and should be immediately replaced with this update. Eliminated error due to rounding of index constant. Corrected CPC-HOB module and posted to website

09/18/2017 Sent Updated version.

Licensed User experienced
flood that ruined his PC.
He installed on a new
PC with 64-bit Win7 OS.

User discovered when
he started in Demo Mode,
clicked "Read and Activate"
and "I Agree" to license,
the ID for his new system
was too long by 3 digits.
This bug prevented a
proper ID and thus
could not be activated.

Sent user special diagnostic
version and was able to find
and fix the problem.

So far, this has only been
a problem with 64-bit OS.

If you are installing on
Win7 or later (64-bit OS)
and cannot create a
proper ID:

CPX plus 6 groups of 4 digits

then download this version
and install it over
your current version.
When you "Read and Activate"
You should get a proper
ID number.

Please report if your
ID is not as described.

If your demo version (running
on Win7 or other 64-bit OS)
creates a malformed
ID number (proper ID MUST BE
CPX plus 6 groups of 4 digits each)
then you need to download and
install this version or later.

Noticed that PI could not be
used in a thread mill formula.
Also, that an ABOUT screen
didn't exist.

Added use of PI in formulas
which translates to number
3.14159... to accuracy of PC
when applied to generate
the decimal ratio for change
gears.

This update
is not a requirement since
there is no error resulting
from earlier version.

It is suggested that user
downloads and installs this
update since it makes PI
accurate and available to
user when entering a
machine formula which
includes PI.

This is a release with
possible Hidden Problems.
If you find a problem
with the software,
Please
me.

This update is different in that
it is being released in BETA status.
This means that testing here has
been as thorough as possible before
distribution.

As a precaution I recommend installing
this version in its own folder separate
from your original installation.
For example, you could install it in a
folder named /RATIOBETA so that your
original version is preserved.
NOTE: Your icon on desktop will point
to the new Update BETA version.

The "User's Operator Manual" is not updated at this time.

The online [F1] help has
been updated, so user is
directed to use [F1] help
facility and email when
[F1] doesn't resolve
questions.

Corrected problem with using formula
A program error was reported with use of formula. Variable portion of formula, when expressed as 1/variable, was not combined with constant value of formula correctly. Thus decimal ratio for a formula expressed with 1/variable was in error. Update is stongly recommended.
Use of formula feature is not reliable without this update.

Began rewrite 05/07/07
Completed rewrite 06/21/07
1- This is a completely new version, therefore the complete software will download and overlay existing software.
Read the README.TXT file to learn about new features and changes.
Please request a new activation key if it runs as the DEMO version after replacement.
2- Unlimited number of machines may be added to CPC-RATIO, each complete with settings and gear inventory.
3- Include and Exclude tables replace the smaller Exclude list. Allows unlimited description of gear inventory for any number of machines.
4- Complete formula may be entered verbatim from machine manual.
1 - Update highly recommended -
New features improve useability and interface for user.
2- Excluded gear size lists are now unlimited. Also an unlimited list of extra gear sizes has been added for each machine.
Program is modified and enhanced.

This update should not require a new Activation key. But if CPC-RATIO runs as the DEMO version after updating, please request a new Activation key.

01/26/04 1- When using F10 to exit the configuration screen, window can hang if a field value was invalid.
2- Excluded size list in configuration screen is too limited.
1 - Critical -
Update recommended to prevent window from hanging which requires task manager to quit.
2- Excluded gear sizes are expanded from 15 to 35 possible sizes.
Program is corrected and enhanced. Posted to website 01/26/04
12/30/03 A four-gear set including a fixed-center pair, where A+B (or C+D) sum of teeth is constant, is not aware of user's excluded gear list. Critical -
Update recommended if finding gearsets that require a driver/driven pair with fixed sum of teeth.
An example is a Fellows 7A gear shaper.
Program is corrected to fully utilize excluded gear list. Posted to website 12/30/03
12/23/03 Update printer driver. Non-critical - Update only if you are having print problems. Added windows printer driver and dialog. Now prints to the default Windows printer. Change to exit config screen with F10 key. Now you can toggle between ratio screen and config screen with F10. Posted to website 12/23/03
11/07/03 Change gears for ratios close to 1.0 were incorrect; that is, CPC-RATIO was not finding the best possible change gear set for ratios in the range from 0.95 to 1.1 approximately. Other ratios appear not to be affected by the error but this is not a certainty for all possible ratios. critical -
you should update
before further use
This update corrects the problem with best four gear set, but results in
a slight increase in time to find a gear set.
Corrected CPC-RATIO module and posted to website 11/09/03
01/09/00 (1) Added maximum limit size to final driver and driven gears in gearsets. This extends the ability to tailor CPC-RATIO to machines with size restrictions on specific gear positions.
Added confirmation screen to prevent accidental exiting with [Esc] key. Updated help.
non-critical These features have been added to CPC-RATIO per suggestion from customer. Corrected CPC-RATIO module and posted to website 01/09/00
10/05/99 (1) Added ability to optionally set fixed teeth total on pair of driver/driven gears.
This makes it easier to find gearsets for Fellows-type shapers which typically use a driver/driven pair on fixed centers.
(2) Added print output of gearset and all conditions and constraints.
non-critical These features have been added to CPC-RATIO per suggestion from customer. Other changes were made to improve display. Several issues with algorithms were resolved. 10/17/99. Corrected CPC-RATIO module and posted to website 10/18/99

How to Update Your Software

This software module is for Gleason No. 104 & 114 Coniflex machine summaries. These machines use two rotary milling style cutters. Cutters control tooth bearing pattern. Often a range of cutters will be useable for a particular summary. CPC-BV4 provides all dimensional input based on industry standards and suggests tooling. These default input values may be changed, but CPC-BV4 informs you of questionable choices. Choices that won't work are prevented and explained.

Tilted Root Line.

Tilted Root Line is

a gear set or print
specification where
Face Angle and Root
Angle are modified.

TRL is added to the

How to Update Your Software

This setup module is for Gleason Spiral Generators with tilt mechanism using the Special Jobbing Method (SJM). This machine uses a rotary face milling style cutter. Cutters control tooth bearing pattern. Often a range of cutters will be useable for a particular summary. CPC-BV1 provides all dimensional input based on industry standards and suggests tooling. These default input values may be changed, but CPC-BV1 informs you of questionable choices. Choices that won't work are prevented and explained.

me and to users.

A better way would be
to remove all letters

elements are numerical.
Changing the prefix "CPC"

No one should consider
this change as a reason to

PC ID prefix is "CPX"

Hypoid specs can be
sensitive to user's
selection of DP
since Pinion location
is often close to
gear radius.

Symptoms may appear
as impossible cutter
choices or spiral angles.
Net effect is a summary
process that reports
warnings and errors.

This can often happen
when user is working
from samples and is
approximating a DP
from gear's Outside
Diameter.

A recent case was an
estimated DP that
resulted in an undersized
OD and an offset that
wasn't achievable.

A bug (not related to
OD/DP issue) was
found with no. 116
summary.
The case can occur
that program could
lock up and force
user to exit.

It was decided that the best course
of action was to add a feature
that prompts user for the OD
(Outside Diameter) measurement.
Thus, if user originally had to
approximate DP (Diametral Pitch),
then the user can enter and change
the OD value and let CPC-HYP
recalculate DP.
When user is satisfied with DP
and OD values, user will simply
[Enter] at the OD input to continue
the summary process.

Unless DP is entered from a print
the value of DP can be questionable.

It is recommended that
user should download
and install this update !

The OD Input feature
is worth an update.

Besides, if you create
summaries for no. 116
or 106 machine, you
could experience the
lockup bug!

Added new feature that
allows user to optionally
enter Outside Diameter.
This gives user an
accurate way to determine
Diametral Pitch (DP), since
program will calculate DP
based on OD.

also added help screens to
explain the problem and the
feature.

OD Input has been added
for all machine setups
that can be made
in CPC-HYP.

Since OD recognizes a
change in value, CPC-HYP
automatically redirects
user to the new value of DP.
Thus user is able to
either accept calculated
DP or not.

Fatal error occurs
for specific
conditions.
See Description
for details.

Discovery? between
09/02 and 09/06/13

This problem may have been around
for some time, but I only recently
discovered it during testing. To
reproduce the problem try this
scenario:

Run CPCHYP and select No.26 machine.
[Enter] to next screen, then select
setup from history (actually, same result
occurs if creating new summary, but easier
to pick from history).
Continue [Enter]ing to gear blade
selection screen.
Reverse the steps by [Esc]ing until the
Select Service screen
is displayed.
Now, hit [Esc] once more and
fatal error should occur.

The scenario above is consistent
but picking any machine OTHER than
no.26 doesn't cause error. Reported
error number is spuious, indicating
an internal failure.

BTW, no one reported this fatal error!

Let us call this the "N534D error".
I found an error with no. 116 calcs
that may cause a noticeable error
in your no. 106 or 116 summaries.
The affected field is n534d, which
was applied in radians, not degrees.
This angle is summed with other
angles to produce Cradle Angle.

This update is especially
recommended to all users!

Fatal error kills program's
return to main menu, forcing
a restart.
Saved summaries are NOT
affected by the fatal error.

- The "N534D error" -
All summaries with the
exception of No.106 and
116 summaries are not
affected.
106 and 116 summaries
may have significant
errors in Cradle Angle.
If you have experienced
a problem with your 106
or 116 summaries where
Cradle Angle was suspect,
please update CPC-HYP
first, and then rerun
106 & 116 summaries
from history to see
if Cradle Angle changes.

We always appreciate your feedback.
So send your comments and findings to .

Thank you for your cooperation!

Fix required a slight change
in screen navigation; [Esc]ing
Select Service screen returns
to main menu now, but in earlier
version it should have displayed
the History of Summaries. This
change could not be avoided,
but should not pose a real problem
to user.

Date of discovery is vague,
since much work over time
has been applied.

It all started when a client
wanted to select cutters from
his inventory of cutters.
Then I discovered
two errors in summary print.

I found some problems with
internal workings that caused
fatal errors when new fields
were added to tables.

And the usual missing [F1]
help screens - always seems
to be some I've missed.

This update is especially
recommended to all users
since features and corrections
are many, such as summary
did not allow user to maintain
and use a cutter inventory.

Cutter inventory is not very
useful if user has to return
to main menu to add a cutter
needed by a summary.
Normally, a user would like to
add cutters to inventory when
selecting blade point widths.

We always appreciate your feedback.
So send your comments and findings to .

Thank you for your cooperation!

Added cutter inventory table
and Preference option to
select either Inventory or
Standard blade tables.

When Inventory option is chosen
(in the Options/Preferences
screen),
user can enter cutter data
at blade point width selection.
This "on the fly"
ability to add cutters during
summary creation should be
a desirable feature.

When cutter is added during
blade selection, the status
of that cutters is
shown as "Requested" in
the cutter list. User may,
when convenient, review the
"Requested" cutters when
reviewing cutter inventory.

Full cutter inventory
maintenance has been added
(See at Main Menu/Options/
Cutter Inventory selection).

These changes and features
added many new topics to the
on-line help [F1].

Deletion/Removal of summaries

apply to all summaries. [F1]
help screens don't explain.

Also, screen navigation
and screen artifacts need
to be cleaned up.

This update is especially
recommended to all users
to avoid the random fatal
error problem.

CPC-HYP is in distribution/field testing, so

Fatal errors found to
be due to memory limits.
These errors appear
unexpectedly since mem
variable space can be
exceeded at any time
during program execution,
thus throwing a fatal
error at random program
lines.
This is a big program with
lots of variables, but is
easily fixed by raising
the mem var limit.

Marking summaries as
'deleted' is limited to
machine selection in
2nd screen [Cleanup]
option.

Module CPC-DUP - Duplex Helical For Gleason No. 2, 106, 108 and 7A Spiral Bevel Gear Generators

Download Update for CPC-DUP
How to Update Your Software

This setup module is for Gleason Spiral Generators with Helical Motion (H20). These machines use rotary face milling style cutters. Cutters control tooth bearing pattern. Often a range of cutters will be useable for a particular summary. CPC-DUP provides all dimensional input based on industry standards and suggests tooling. These default input values may be changed, but CPC-DUP informs you of questionable choices. Choices that won't work are prevented and explained.

Practical choice of
cutter numbers was
limited by some internal
conditions that user
had no control over.
If calc. Sum Of Cutter #s
could be made small enough
to take advantage of the
acceptable +/-5 range,
then a small calculated
sum would allow user
to enter 0 for
cutter numbers.

Also needed option to
select 108 Machine.

Not much information
found for 108 machine
other than it requires
K2 to be 6" and Nc/50
roll ratio gearing
like 106 Machine.

If anyone knows of
differences between
106 and 108 machines
that might have an
affect on summaries,
that information
would be most
appreciated.

How to Update Your Software

Important notes about updating your software:

Updating your licensed software normally will not require a new activation key. Your activation key is guaranteed to work as long as you install the updated software on the originally installed computer.

IMPORTANT!

If you are installing on a new computer, please follow this procedure:

If you are a licensed user then copy your backup of the original software to your new PC BEFORE updating. Update the software according to the corresponding link "how to update your software" listed with each update above. After you have updated then request your free activation key.

If you have any difficulty or questions please your company name, phone number of someone we may contact, and the computer ID displayed by the software when you try to activate it. Please include your Email address.

Make a backup copy of your CPC software. This is not a requirement to accomplish an update, but having a backup copy before performing any changes is always a good idea. If you follow the instructions carefully you should have no problems. However, we cannot be responsible for any losses that might occur.

What if you downloaded the wrong update file for your software and performed the update anyway? Don't worry - no damage was done, but your software was not updated either. Just scroll back up to the correct update and download it, then click "How to Update Your Software" next to the download link, and follow the directions.
